The objectives edition is part of the plan
The code and date on an objectives file identify which syllabus you copied. The code on your registration is the exam you booked. Write both. A plan for one edition is not a plan for the other.
The file has an identity
An objectives file shows an exam code and a publication or revision date. Those identify the syllabus you turned into a tracker. A later edition can add, drop, or reweight topics. The tracker does not update itself when the file on the vendor site changes.
If the copy you used has no code and no date, write “edition not on this copy.” Do not guess the current edition from memory.
The registration is the other code
The appointment confirmation names the exam you paid for. That code can differ from the PDF in your notes if you downloaded an older outline. The plan is for the PDF you copied. The sitting is for the code you booked. Say so when they differ, and rebuild the tracker from the outline that matches the booking.
A book’s copyright year is not the objectives edition. Cite the objectives file, not the book, when you name the syllabus.
What to write down
File the objectives code, the date printed on that file, and the exam code on the confirmation. If you retire a tracker, say which edition it belonged to. Do not mark topics done against an edition you did not open.
Lab: a tracker for a code you did not book
The spreadsheet was built from an objectives PDF coded SY0-601, revised 2021. The confirmation for 2026-11-20 is for SY0-701. A draft says the tracker is finished, so the booked exam is covered.
The note quotes both codes. The finished tracker covers the 2021 file. It does not cover the exam on the confirmation. The next step is a tracker built from the SY0-701 outline, not a claim that the old list still matches.
tracker source: SY0-601 objectives, revised 2021 confirmation: SY0-701 on 2026-11-20 write: the tracker is the older edition not: the booked exam is covered
Diagram
Two codes that get treated as one
The plan follows the file you copied. The sitting follows the confirmation.
- Objectives code and date
Which syllabus the tracker was built from.
- Confirmation code
Which exam you booked.
- A mismatch
Rebuild from the outline that matches the booking.
- A book year
Not a substitute for the objectives edition.
Check yourself
1. A tracker was built from a 2021 objectives file, and the confirmation names a newer code. What did you finish?
2. The PDF you saved has no exam code and no date. What do you write?
3. When the codes differ, what is the fair next step?
