The Age column is not the creation time

Age is a duration from this command. creationTimestamp is the absolute time. Do not file Age as the clock.

Age is relative to the command

The Age column is a duration kubectl computed when the command ran. 4h means about four hours before that run. It is not a timestamp, and it moves the next time someone runs the same get.

Without the time of the command, 4h cannot be placed on a calendar. Write the command time if you have it. If you do not, say the Age has no anchor.

creationTimestamp is the absolute field

metadata.creationTimestamp is the time the API stored for the object. That string is the creation clock. It does not change because you ran get later. Quote it when you say when the object was created.

Do not subtract Age in your head and file the result as the timestamp. If the timestamp is on the object, copy that field.

Two clocks, labeled

File Age with the command time, and file creationTimestamp on its own line. If only Age was pasted, write that the creation timestamp was not in the paste.

Lab: 4h filed as a timestamp

A lab get at 2026-11-03T15:00:00Z shows pod lab-web with Age 4h. The object creationTimestamp is 2026-11-03T11:00:00Z. A draft writes the creation time as 4h.

The note says Age 4h at the command time 15:00Z, and creationTimestamp 11:00Z. The duration is not stored as the clock. The absolute field is the one in the creation line.

Check yourself

1. The Age column says 4h. What is 4h?

2. creationTimestamp is 2026-11-03T11:00:00Z. What do you file as the creation clock?

3. The paste has Age and neither the command time nor creationTimestamp. What absolute creation time can you file?
