Turning an exam objectives document into a weekly study plan

Break the official objectives into tracked items, rate your confidence, weight study time by domain percentage and weakness, and schedule review and practice exams.

Start with the official objectives

Every reputable exam publishes an objectives or outline document listing domains, their weight as a percentage, and the specific topics in each. It is the contract for what can appear on the exam. Courses and books are interpretations of it; when they disagree, the objectives win.

Make the objectives a tracker

Copy every objective into a spreadsheet with columns for domain, weight, your confidence from 1 to 5, the resource you will use, and a hands-on task. Study time should follow both weight and weakness: a heavy domain where you rate yourself 2 gets the most hours.

Snippet
domain | weight | objective | confidence | resource | hands-on task | done
2 Threats | 22% | 2.4 indicators of malicious activity | 2 | book ch.6 | review sample Windows logs for brute force |
3 Architecture | 18% | 3.1 cloud and on-prem models | 3 | video module 3 | diagram a lab VPC with subnets |
4 Operations | 28% | 4.9 data sources for investigations | 1 | lab | query auth logs in a SIEM trial |

Lab: build your first four weeks

Download the current objectives for your exam and build the tracker. Score your confidence honestly, then compute a priority score as weight times (6 minus confidence). Schedule the top items first, with a short review of earlier weeks every weekend and a timed practice test at the end of week four to recalibrate.

Snippet
priority = weight * (6 - confidence)
4 Operations 28% x (6-1) = 140   -> week 1
2 Threats    22% x (6-2) =  88   -> week 2
3 Architecture 18% x (6-3) = 54  -> week 3
weekend: 30-minute review of all prior weeks
end of week 4: timed practice exam, update confidence scores

Adjust as you go

Update confidence after each practice test and reorder the remaining weeks. Book the exam once you consistently score comfortably above the passing mark on reputable practice tests, not before, but do set a target date early so the plan has a deadline.
