Beginner hints: the hint sentence is not the flag
An unlocked hint is an extra sentence, sometimes with a cost. Quote it as a hint. Do not submit it as the flag.
Opening a hint records an extra sentence
A practice board can offer a hint button. After you open it, the board shows a sentence the author wrote, and it may show a point cost. The sentence is additional text. The cost, if shown, is a charge for opening it.
Opening the hint does not mark the challenge solved. The scoreboard still needs a submission the platform accepts.
The event format still applies
The event sheet names what a flag looks like. A hint that does not match that format is not a candidate to submit. Quote it in the notebook as a hint, then keep working from the files you were given.
Do not extend the sentence, and do not turn the first word into a guess. This page does not invent the rest of a hint.
What the notebook keeps
Keep the challenge id, the hint text in quotes, and the cost if the board displayed one. Write that the hint was not submitted. If you never opened a hint, write that no hint was opened.
Club night: a hint pasted into the answer box
On practice challenge 14 the hint reads: look at the first line of the README in the download. The board shows a cost of 10. A draft pastes that whole sentence into the submission box.
The notebook quotes the sentence, notes cost 10, and says the sentence was not submitted. The event sheet asks for a short token in a wrapper the sheet defines. This sentence is not that token. The download stays the place to read next.

2. The board shows a cost of 10 next to the hint. What is that 10?
3. The hint does not match the format on the event sheet. What do you submit from it?
