Six attachments, how many files
Quarantine holds six ZIP attachments with different names. Hash them, group identical digests, and tell the mail team how many distinct samples they really have.
Briefing
This morning’s phishing wave used a different attachment name for each department. The mail team wants to know whether to send six samples to the sandbox or fewer.
A file name says nothing about the contents. Identical bytes always give the same SHA-256, so grouping by hash shows how many different files there are.
