The conversation id is not the request id

A conversation id groups turns. A request id is one call. Write both, and do not merge calls that only share the thread.

The conversation id groups turns

A conversation id is the thread the application stored. Several calls can carry it. The id says they were filed together. It does not say they were one model call, and it does not say they returned the same text.

Quote the conversation id when you mean the thread. Do not use it as the only key for a sentence about one reply.

The request id is one call

Each request id names one outbound call. Two request ids under the same conversation are two calls. A later call can disagree with an earlier one. The shared thread does not pick a winner.

If the paste has a conversation id and no request id, write that the request id was not in the paste. Do not invent a call id from the thread.

How a thread is cited

File the conversation id once, then each request id with the reply you are quoting. A ticket that says “the assistant said” has to name which request. The thread name is not that name.

Worked case: two calls under one thread

Lab thread conv-12 contains request req-801, which replied that the lab closes at 6, and request req-802, which replied that it closes at 8. A draft files one call, conv-12, and keeps the 6.

The note lists conv-12 as the thread and both request ids as calls. The hours page, if it is the source, is cited on its own. The draft does not collapse the two replies because they share a thread.

Snippet
conversation: conv-12
req-801: closes at 6
req-802: closes at 8
write: one thread, two calls
not: one answer named conv-12

Check yourself

1. conv-12 contains req-801 and req-802. How many calls are they?

2. You want to quote the reply from req-802. What do you name?

3. The paste has a conversation id and no request id. What do you write?
