A directory pin is not who is there
A business listing shows the address the listing publishes. For an organization that authorized the review, write that address beside the official one. Do not treat a pin as occupancy, and do not visit it to check.
The pin is the listing’s address
A maps or directory listing stores an address and often a pin that someone, or an old import, published. For your own organization, or one that authorized the review, that address is a public record of the listing. It is not a count of people, a photo of the doorway, or proof that anyone is there now.
Hours on the listing are text too. They are not a log of who entered.
The official address is a second record
The address on the organization’s own site, or in the records they gave you, can differ from the pin. Write both. A difference is a listing to correct through the directory’s business tools. It is not a reason to go to the pin, to identify neighbors, or to treat a residential-looking address as a place to survey.
If you are not authorized for that organization, you do not build this note at all.
What to write down
File the listing name, the URL or listing id, the address as printed, the official address, and the date you viewed the listing. State that you did not visit. The remediation is an edit by the organization in the directory, not a trip.
Lab: a pin that is not the office
Example Org authorized a review. Its site says the office is 1 Lab Plaza. A directory listing for the same name pins 12 Side Street and shows weekday hours. A draft says staff are at 12 Side Street during those hours and suggests going by to confirm.
The note quotes both addresses and the hours as listing text. It does not say who is there. The visit is not done. The fix is for the organization to correct or remove the listing in the directory’s own console.
org: Example Org, authorized review official address: 1 Lab Plaza listing: directory id L-44 listing address: 12 Side Street listing hours: weekdays, as text viewed: 2026-11-03 write: two addresses not: a visit, not occupancy
