Beginner submissions: incorrect is not a distance

Incorrect rejects that string. It does not rank closeness. Correct means accepted, not a license to publish yet.

Incorrect is one rejection

When a practice board replies incorrect, it rejected the string you sent for that challenge id. The reply does not mark a character, a prefix, or a distance. A later incorrect reply is another rejection, not a ranking of the earlier ones.

Keep each rejected string only in the private event notebook, labeled as rejected. Do not sort them from warm to cold. The board did not provide that order.

Correct means the platform accepted it

A correct reply means your account received an acceptance for that challenge. It does not describe how the string was found, and it does not permit a public write-up while the event rules still say write-ups wait.

Until those rules allow it, the notebook can say the account was marked correct. The string itself stays inside the event notes.

What an attempt list is for

The list shows what you already sent, so the group does not repeat a rejection. It is not a heat map. If the board never replied, write that no reply was saved. Do not invent a distance from the order of the attempts.

Club night: three rejections and one acceptance

The group sends the practice notes alpha, beta, and gamma. Each reply is incorrect. A draft ranks gamma as closest because it was last. A later submission is accepted while the event clock still shows six hours, and the draft puts that accepted string in a public gist.

The notebook lists three rejections with no ranking. It records that the account was marked correct. The accepted string stays in the event notebook until the rules allow a write-up. Nothing is published during the remaining six hours.

Check yourself

1. The board replies incorrect to one string. What does that reply tell you?

2. Three replies are incorrect. What can you claim about them?

3. The board replies correct and the event clock still has six hours. What may you publish now?
