Amass: an ASN is not an address
An ASN in the graph is a network number a source stored. It is not an IP address, a hostname, or every address in that network.
The ASN is a network number
A graph row can show an autonomous system number next to other fields. That number names a network a source associated with the row. It is not an IP address. It will not fit in an address column without changing the meaning.
AS64500 is the network token. 203.0.113.40, if it is also on the row, is the address. They are not spellings of each other.
One number is not the whole network
Storing an ASN does not list every address inside it. The inventory gains the address that was actually printed, not the rest of the network. Do not expand AS64500 into a block you did not read from the output.
A hostname on the row is still a name. Do not replace the name with the ASN, or the ASN with the name.
Fields that keep their labels
File the ASN with the label ASN, the address with the label address, and the name with the label name. If one of them is missing, say which. Do not fill an empty address with the ASN.
Worked case: an ASN pasted into the address column
A lab row shows name files.lab.example, address 203.0.113.40, and ASN AS64500. A draft puts AS64500 in the address field and adds every address in that network to the inventory.
The note keeps 203.0.113.40 as the address and AS64500 as the ASN. The network number is not expanded. The address column does not contain AS64500.
name: files.lab.example address: 203.0.113.40 asn: AS64500 write: three labeled fields not: address AS64500, and not the whole network

What an ASN field is allowed to fill
The network number stays in the ASN column.
- ASN
The network number a source stored, such as AS64500.
- Address
The IP printed on the row, such as 203.0.113.40.
- Name
The hostname on the row. Not a substitute for either number.
- The rest of the network
Not listed. Do not invent those addresses.
Check yourself
1. A row shows AS64500 and 203.0.113.40. What is AS64500?
2. Which value belongs in the address column?
3. The row does not list other addresses in that ASN. What do you add?
